Muthu #309: Sithiramum Kolluthadi
(சித்திரமும் கொல்லுதடி)

[The Picture that Kills]

Muthu #309 featuring Nick Raider, aka., Detective Robin (as he is christened in Tamil Comics), titled "Sithiram Kolluthadi" (சித்திரமும் கொல்லுதடி) has closely followed the Lion release this month, which is an encouraging sign from the Prakash Publishers.

Nick Raider Stories are known for their plot-work, coupled with eye-catching artwork.  This issue doesn't disappoint us on that account.  Mr. Vijayan should be credited for choosing the title for the stories, which he weaves around the main plot of the storyline.

The story revolves around the murder of a Prom-Queen, and the mysteries surrounding it.   Nick and his partner gets down in finding the real killer, on the way interrogating different persons involved with the life of the deceased, and their link to the incident.  With the help of the Physically challenged kid next door, and his extraordinary skill in drawing the future, Nick successfully nabs the culprit.  As usual, the killer at the end turns out to be an unexpected person, as it is common on the Nick Raider / Detective Robin stories.

The exchanges of Nick and his ever-angry chief sums up the humour part to the storyline.

In Comics Time Editor acknowledges that the last edition of Muthu #308, indeed carried the Old Cover Art of Johny Nero, despite the issue featuring the John Steel exploits.  Remember that you read about it first on Comicology. :)

The next Muthu Edition will see the back of Martin Mystery.  I always liked the science and magic mixed story plots of his, something unique among the other stars.  A Visual treat to one's imagination.  That makes "Ponnil Oru Pinam", an eagerly awaited edition.

Back Cover carries the Teaser to XIII Special, which should take the accolades for the longest thought project ever made by Prakash Publishers.

Hopefully that should be out by the end of this year.

guys, are these latest books available in chennai?. if u know any shops, pls share it here. thanks lot.

Adyar - Shop near to hotel Runs
- Shop near Adyar signal (Corner shop)
T-Nagar - Few shops after Theater Krishnaveni. (Few more shops also selling books near t-nagar bus stand)

Sadly, the company web site was only one of the free sites you can get-and quite limited in scope. I had one similar some ten years back and anyone coming along can buy up the site from the company running them.

My old Indian comics group on yahoo literally begged for Muthu/Lion comics news but never got any.

A pity the site is gone because with no comic fandom magazines India must seem starved of news.

However, someone wants to send news/reviews Comic Bits Online will try to keep fans up-dated.

Keep up the good work.
Terry

Dear Comic Fans,

Surprise, Surprise. Yesterday (9th August 2008) Received the latest issue of Lion Comics: Kaatril Karaindha Kazhugu - Part 2 of 3 Part series.

Very nice to know that the works of Part 3 is also completed & will be available in few days.

These are some of the best times for Tamil comics when you get 3 Lion comics issues in 3 months.

Great Going Mr Vijayan.

Kindly keep up the same pace in other issues as well.

Thanks & Regards,

@anonymous:

I got the Tex Willer part 2 today nd I live in the US. Hope you get yours soon.

I am more anxiously waiting for the classics issue. Any word on that?

Dear Fans
me too got the book but from Madurai .Still the tex viller book is not avalable in chennai shops.I don't remember when was the last time i got both muthu and lion on the same time . Both were good stories and as usual tex viller is more superior than robin story . Way back in old times , there used to be lion ,muthu, thigil and mini lion will come to shop on th same month . Though all four will cost less than 12Rs , it was difficult to buy as i was a kid and my dad had restricted pocket money to Rs 5 /week .I even remember stealing money from my mother purse to buy comics . Surely the release of lion and muthu in the same month took me back to my good old days

In last week kumudham tamil magazine there is an article on actor Ponnvannan .He is die hard fan of our muthu and lion comics.
Nice to have a celebrity in our comics family .

Dear Rafiq,

Why there is no update / Review of the Tex Willer part 2 from you? We are eagerly waiting for the review from you. Kindly update soon.

To Arun Prasad: The magazine that you are referring is Not Kumudham, it is Kungumam. I Will send the Scanned part of the magazine to Rafiq so that he can post it in the blog .

By the way, Actor/Director Ponvannan is a great comic fan & he came to my Launch Function of Star comics along with other people like Art Director Marudhu Sir, Writer S.Ramakrishnan and Director Mysskin, all of them are great comic fans.

Of them, Director Mysskin has a great sense of Reading. Not only comics, but of varied interests. He has a big Collection of Books. Being his friend, let me share a Secret with you. Next year he planned to make a Movie (Tentatively Titled as X) which will be based on a Superman Kind of Hero. Mysskin plans to publish a Comic Book on the same as well.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Shankar,
Surprised to know that another comic fan is there in Perambur. By the way, Lion Muthu comics are available in Many Places (As nearby as Ayanavaram - Near Mr Venkatesh's House, Who happens to be Another comics Fan). Let me give the Exact 2 Locations which are known to all people: T Nagar

(1) In Pondy Bazaar, there is Hotel saravana Bhavan Next to That Hotel, there is a small book shop which has all tamil comics regularly.
(2) In T Nagar, Opposite to Shiva Vishnu Temple, there is a Road Sraight opposite to The Temple, cutting off from the Main Raod. At the junction itself, you will find another small book shop which has comics.

Have Fun. Still you want to know more / Contact me, then mail to me.

Anony's, Toonfactory, Terry/CBO: Thanks for visiting and leaving your comments.

Arun: I also have the childhood memories of stealing money from my mother to buy some Comics, when my Pocket Money was the same Re.1/day. So for the sake of Comics it was allowed (by me).

Kumudam article Viswa referred is now available as a post in his new blog, Tamil Comics Ulagam, have a look.

I have one of the copies you mentioned to have found in Odyssey store of Modesty Blaise and James Bond, bought in USA during my last visit. They are wonderful to have in your collection. But are highly priced in Exchange rates over here. So, have been avoiding to buy them so far.

BN: As usual, No news yet on Classics.

Viswa: Thanks for those warm comments. That's what keeps me going to blog more. I have updated about Lion Comics now.

hi rafiq...good to fellow comic geek...can u tell me where to get Gotham Comics in chennai..im new here and imnt sure whr to find them....

Annony: You might not be aware that Gotham Comics are no more in print since Oct 07. For more details, Refer to the other Gotham comics thread in this blog. You can find them by clicking on the respective tag in the Labels Cloud Section.

hi am udhaya from chennai i need muthu comics minnum maranam pls help me my number is 9710427191

very urgently i need that i challanged my friend

Where can i get the comics of tamil of famous muthu comics (Irumbukai Mayavi, Lawrence, Johny etc)in chennai

Udhaya: I would love to help, but I don't possess any double copies of Minnum Maranam. Try your luck with Prakash Publishers, who might have this in their backorder stock.

Anony: Tamil Comics, and especially the ones which you mentioned, are now considered Pulp classic, and you can't find them in any stores or waste paper marts, as they are gobbled up already by collectors. The best you could do is to contact Prakash Publishers and susbcribe for their Comics Classic editions, which do re-print these stories time and again. For the latest releases, you can always check back at Comicology, as we cover them first-up and have been consistently doing so for the past 2 years.

After Madestie's kolai seya verumbu i have not got any edition .when next edition will be published

@ Anony: You are not alone. None of have received any editions of Lion or Muthu Comics, since then, as Prakash Publishers seem to be taking their time before publishing another issue in their lineup. Possibly changing tactics.
