Dear Rafiq,

எனக்கு பிடித்த மாயாவியின் கதைகளில் இதுவும் ஒன்று.

பிடித்த வசனம் இன்னமும் நினைவிலுள்ளது. க்ரைடாட் தாக்கி உளவுப்படை தலைவர் உறைந்து போய்விடுவார். அப்போது மாயாவியின் சைட்கிக் மோரீஸ் ஒரு பஞ்ச் அடிப்பார்.

‘சும்மா வறட்டு தவளை மாதிரி கத்திக்கிட்டு இருந்தாருல்ல இப்பதான் நல்லா இருக்காரு’

சரியாக நினைவில்லை. ஆனால் வறட்டு தவளை நினைவுள்ளது.

புதிய புத்தகம் வந்தால் வாங்கி வைத்துக் கொள்ளவேண்டும். காமிக்ஸ் க்ளாஸிக்ஸ் - உள்ள குறைபாடு என்னவென்றால் ஒருவித மந்தமான பிரிண்ட் காணப்படும்.

யாரும் இதுவரை சொன்னதில்லை என்றாலும் அதை சரி செய்திருந்தால் மகிழ்ச்சிதான்.

சின்ன வயசில இந்த கதையை படிச்சுட்டு எனக்கு தோணிணது என்னன்ன பாவம் மாயாவி, ஒரே புழுக்கமா இருக்காது. அப்புறம் எப்படி ஒன் பாத்ரூம் போவார்?

@ Spider: Welcome Bro. The joy is only mutual see one of our childhood comic stars in full blown size. Vijayan seems to be committed in releasing all Classics in the same size, which was one of the most requested change among all Tamil comic fans. Let's hope it stays like this always :)

@ Siv: Comics Superstars & Cinema Superstars... Great comparison dude. Tiger and Tex on the same league, hmm... I should contradict on that.... but it's the same situation out there in Vijay/Ajith comparison too... so that makes a perfect fit :)

@ Ramesh: I was told that it's also available at T Nagar shops. But Comics Classics would only be available by another week's time at shops I believe, as the Lion Comics issue has just made it out to the stores this week.

கடைசியாக பிரிட்டிஸ் கதாபாத்திரங்களை அமெரிக்க மக்களுக்கு அறிமுகம் செய்கிறேன் பேர்வழி என்று அவர்கள் கொத்துகறியாக ஆக்கியதை பார்த்தபின், இனி அவர்கள் எம்முயற்சியும் எடுக்காமல் இருந்தாலே சிறப்பு என்றுதான் தோன்றுகிறது. :) அந்த ஆல்பியன் தொடரை பற்றி ஒரு பதிவில் கிழிக்காமல விட கூடாது. ;)

அமெரிக்க மக்கள் தங்கள் சித்திரக்கதை நாயகர்களுடன் எப்படி ஒட்டி உறவாடி வளர்கிறார்கள் என்பதற்கு சிறந்த சான்று அவர்கள் ஊரில் பல இடங்களில் வருடம் தோறும் நடக்கும் காமிக் கான் திருவிழாக்கள். சித்திரக்கதைகள் என்றாலே சிறுபிள்ளை விளையாட்டு என்று இன்னமும் எண்ணம் பரவலாக வியாபித்திருக்கும் நம் நாட்டில் அப்படி நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடக்க நாம் இன்னும் பல வருடங்கள் காத்திருக்க வேண்டி இருக்கும். சீக்கிரம் அப்படிபட்ட ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சியை நம் நாட்டிலும் காண்போம் என்று பிரார்த்தித்து கொள்வோம் :)

I am glad to share my memories ( i am now 46 ) that Mr.Mullai Thangarasu had esatablished Muthu comics and the very first issue was Irumbukkai Maayavi at 90 paise around 1972.Then it has become Rs.1.Urai pani marmam,Naasa alaigal, Paampu theevu, flight 731, etc followed this issue.For further comments will u pl address me?

yesterday was the first time i visited your website and completely thrilled to see how much details and knowlege you have with these comics. my memory of reading jumbo old muthu comics came to my mind with my dad which would be 30 years ago. i just got back from india and bought the classic steel claw, mandrake and corrigan and glad to see lion comics is back again. again you have done a great job in comparing all the old ones to the respective english,italian and fanco-belgian version.

John Havoc, is one of my personal favorites too... I hope to see them at least in the Comics Classics format, sometime in future. All depends on Editors plan for the future.

@ Scorp: It's true. Those glorious days of running for Thigil,Lion,Mini Lion, and finding that your pocket money won't help to procure all the copies when they get released all at once, is something we can never ever experience again in our life.

I only hope that we continue to see atleast one issue every month (either Muthu,Lion, or classics) from our Editor's team, which will keep us on our toes, to run behind them once again.

@ Anony: That request has already been posted to our Editor multiple times. He is just trying to get some logistics setup so that the content is updated on a regular basis, and without any delay. So, until finds that mechanism and the responsible people for the job, we have to wait for the announcement. The Lioncomics.com domain is already been taken by someone else, I hope that Vijayan at least manage to buy that back to restore some old glory, and keep it ready for a relaunch of our site.

Thanks for those warm words about our site. Rest assured, Comicology, will continue to publish a fan's account of all our beloved comics, on a regular basis. Stay Tuned my friend, I know you will :)

@ BN: Hope you enjoyed your Lion Corrigan Double Dose. It's true that they are Al Willaimson's work. The first two pages on the second story were so poorly illustrated (or was it our printing issue) that I mistook it as a different author. I will blog more about it when I update our Lion Comics post, which I should get done in a couple of days time, as all would have received their respective copy through all modes by now.

About comics Classics, I hope Vijayan would take note of your suggestions, and bring those rare issues back in print. Big issues for Classics seems to be the present mantra, and I hope that the sales of the same encourages Editor to persist with him always.

I guess Mr.J's query on XIII should get resolved once he contact the Lion comics office, which I believe he would have already tried, one seeing your message :)

About ComicCon, I have my eyes set out to attend at least one in the near future. I keep checking out fan blogs and creator sites for updates on Comic-Cons.... it's so good to see the young and the old expressing themselves heart-out at the grand event. I only wish that such things happen in India too, which looks a long shot yet :)

By the way, thanks for the double-dose comment. Needless to say it means a lot, to hear from one of the long-time comic fans like thyself :) I can learn a lot of those experiences, which I never could enjoy personally. ;)

I agree with you, Steel Claw was clearly under rated among comic stars. But isn't that the story about every other Golden Genre British Comic Heroes. It seems the word Superhero seems to be synonymous only to American Genre.... I am happy that at least there is a handful few who still can contradict that.. :)

அந்த கட்டம் என் மனதையும் கவர்ந்த ஒன்று... நம் விஜயனின் மொழி பெயர்ப்புக்கு கிடைத்த இன்னொரு பரிசு. சாதாரண ஆங்கில வாக்கியத்தை கூட நம் மொழியில் அன்னியோன்யமாக மாற்ற முடியும் என்று நிரூபித்தவர்களில் அவருக்கு முக்கிய பங்கு என்றும் இருக்கும் என்பது என் தாழ்மையான கருத்து,

மாயாவியின் கதைகள் லாஜிக் இல்லா கற்பனா உலகம் என்றாலும், அவை நம் சிறுவயது நினைவுகளில் அப்படி ஒரு தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி இருக்கிறார் என்று நன்றாக விளங்குகிறது.

கிளாசிக்குகளிள் மந்தமான பிரின்ட் வருவதற்கு எனக்கு தெரிந்த ஒரிஜினல் மூலங்களில் இருந்து அவை தயாரிக்கபடுவதில்லை என்ற காரணம் தான் இருக்கும் என்று நினைக்கிறேன். ஏற்கனவே வெளியான மக்கிப்போன பக்கங்களில் இருந்து இவைகள் மறுஅவதாரம் எடுப்பதால் சற்று சாயம் வெளுத்த படங்களோடு நாம் காலம் தள்ள வேண்டி இருக்கிறது போல.

ஒரிஜினல் புத்தகமே இல்லாத சமயத்தில், சற்று பொலிவிலந்து வெளியானாலும் இதை பொக்கிஷமாக போற்றி காப்பாற்ற வேண்டியது தான். கடினமான அட்டை இருந்திருந்தால் வெகு காலத்திற்கு பாதுகாக்கலாம், அது இல்லாமல் போயிற்று.

பி.கு.: ஹா ஹா... மொத்தத்தையும் கழட்டிட்டு போக அவர் என்ன கஷ்டப்பட்டிருப்பார் என்று நினைக்க தோன்றுகிறது. எல்லா சூப்பர் ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் விதிக்கபட்ட சாபம் அப்படி, மாயாவி மட்டும் தப்பிக்க முடியுமா :) ?

பத்து ரூபாய்க்கு இன்றும் ஒரு புத்தகத்தை வெளியிட்டு கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆசிரியரை கட்டாயம் பாராட்டதான் வேண்டும். ஆனால் வார இதழ்களே தற்போது 15, 20 ரூபாய்க்கு விற்று கொண்டிருக்கும் இக்காலத்தில், சற்றே விலை உயர்த்தி பக்கங்களின் தரம் மற்றும் கடினமான அட்டை போட்டு அவர் வினியோகித்தால், அதை வரவேற்க நாம் எல்லாரும் காத்திருக்கிறோம் என்பதை அவரும் அறிய வேண்டும் என்பது என் அவாவும் கூட.

கழுகு மலை கோட்டையை மறுபதிப்பில் பார்க்க நானும் ஆவலாக காத்திருக்கிறேன். அதன் அட்டைபடத்தை மாற்றாமல் ஏற்கனவே வெளிவந்த தொனியில் வெளியிட்டால் லயன் முதல் இதழுக்கு பெருமை சேர்த்தது போல இருக்கும். ஆனால், இப்போதைக்கு லயன் மறுபதிப்புகளை விட, முத்து மறுபதிப்புகளுக்கு தான் ஆசிரியல் முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுப்பது போல தெரிகிறது.

பிரஞ்ச் மொழியில் மாயாவியா...? ஒரு அட்டை பட மற்றும் சில பக்கங்களை அனுப்பி வையுங்களேன்.... மொழி புரியாவிட்டாலும் மாயாவியை பிரஞ்சு பேசி பார்க்க ஆவலாக இருக்கிறது.

Mr.J: You are lucky. The only chance I got of seeing this title before the current reprint, was due to a loan from a friend. Don't have the pleasure of owning the Original Copy.

By the way, I hope that your school competition with a friend was not something related to the physical nature. Frankly speaking, I never made inroads on that front.

On XIII, I still believe that the overseas booking is available. Just check out by calling the Lion Office.

Why not Mr Vijayan be requested to start a web page of their own for Lion and Muthu Comics, as it had earlier. Hosting is not a big issue nowadays. The all comprising web page 'Comicology' is worderful and Mr Rafiq keep up the good work

Cap Tiger: The comic con event is very big here indeed, with lots of Hollywood personalities taking part in it and is covered in TV as well (I didn't watch it though as I do not have the habit of watching TV at all. US TV is mostly garbage, especially the "news" channels).

Rafiq:
I finally received the Corrigan issue today (July 27th). It was postmarked July 16 at Sivakasi PO. and took 11 days. To my surprise, both stories are illustrated by the all time great artist Al Williamson. I thought someone had commented before that George Evans was the artist, but they are wrong. This is 100% Williamson art.

Looking at the "City under the sand" aka "Pathazha Nagaram" issue in your post, I had a thought: If Vijayan wants to re-issue classic issues like "Kolaikara Kalaignan" in standard big size, he should consider re-issuing "Pathazha Nagaram" again as it was a very limited issue and copies had run out before I could order mine. Lot of people were not able to get their hands on this issue due to limited availability. I hope he reads these comments and responds. Also there are many issues like "Beirutil Johnny", "Nayagaravil Mayavi" etc that haven't come out in classics yet. I hope he brings them out in the large format as well.

Thank you Rafiq for the timely update. I am still waiting for the Corrigan issue and the classics issue to come to me by post.

I wonder what Mr. J means when he said that XIII will not be available to overseas subscribers. I live in the US and I get all issues promptly on time from at Prakash Publishers. Of course the postal service take their own sweet time to deliver, but it is not the fault of Prakash Publishers.
